We cultivate community well-being
by connecting people, places, and resources,
to increase access to food growing opportunities
for everyone in Framingham.
While our name and mission statement are new, we are not new to Framingham. Our roots are in the organization Transition Framingham, which was founded in 2011 to help Framingham transition from fossil fuel dependence to local resilience. The Framingham Community Gardens Working Group, a project of Transition Framingham, was initiated in 2018 to increase edible gardening within the Framingham community.
In 2026, Transition Framingham and the Framingham Community Gardens Working Group will be evolving into and rebranding as Framingham Grows Food. This “transition” is a natural continuation of our efforts to build local resilience through strengthening our community’s capacity to grow our own food, which has been a core focus of ours since launching in 2011.
One of Transition Framingham’s very first events was to host a tour of local vegetable gardens, which we will sponsor again on August 29th for its fifteenth year. Over the years, we have supported our local community gardens, co-founded the Framingham Seed Library, built garden boxes for afterschool programs, led a design project in collaboration with the city for new community garden sites, helped the Pratt Street Community Garden fund improvements through CPA, and provided resources and education to help folks start food gardens and keep them growing – and from this rich soil, and the deep roots of Transition Framingham, Framingham Grows Food has sprouted and is ready to grow!
